Focal Point

Within this composition I attempted to demonstrate focal point. As I have a number of books around my dorm I decided to align them from the shortest to tallest. The bear breaks apart the larger books from the smaller ones, creating a focal point within the paws in the composition.

Balance

My dresser top is generally in a perpetual state of chaos. Through this set up I attempted to create a feel of balance among the clutter on my desk.
Here I begin to organize the clutter on my desk, dragging the box towards the center of the composition and beginning to stack the smaller books and boxes.

I bring my books forward within the composition, centering the boxed set. Several cylindrical items are lined up along the sides, matching bottle for bottle. I put the rest of my books that cannot fit in the front centered directly on top of the box, and rest the bear against the brown bag.

I readjust a few more items, and make sure the composition works well.

Rhythm

Through careful incisions, I created a pattern on the skin of the apples, making a sense of rhythm over the surface. From this, I arranged the pieces of the apples into a pattern of alternating red and green skins before consuming them.

Scale

Through the juxtaposition of the bird and the soda bottle, the illusion of a large bottle makes an interesting difference of scale between the two objects. I repeat this method with a figure of a bear and a small flower pot. By placing the bear figure in the foreground, the camera gives the perspective that the bear is larger in proportion to the flower pot than it actually is.

Variety/Unity

Art supplies are a constant within my life. My art box is often a mix of brands and supplies, which is evident through the varying sizes, colors, designs, and types of the brushes shown above. While they may vary in quality and brush stroke, these brushes all serve to be utilized in a single unified purpose: to create art.
